Many Creationists link the origin of life to evolution. Wanted to post a reply to someone that claimed this. Opinions?
As far as a theory of the origin of life, we do not have one in science. We have hypotheses, such as abiogenesis, but no scientific theory. In my blog and on my forum I have made the argument that this leaves the door open for a theistic God (as opposed to simply a deistic one.) So you are right about that point.
Where you are incorrect is claiming that “evolutionists” try to keep it separate because it somehow discredits evolution. That is simply not true. Evolution is a theory of the change of life over time, nothing more, and nothing less. Creationism, on the other hand, is a “theory of everything.” Creation is supposed to explain everything from the creation of the universe to modern humans. Evolution has nothing to do with the origin of the universe, the law of physics, or the origin of life. Those are completely separate topics. Using your line of reasoning I can use anything we do not have answers for in science to discredit any other theory. We do not have all the answers so can we discredit gravity as a theory? How about heliocentrism? We do not know how life began so can we discredit the germ theory of disease? The origin of life is kept separate because it is a completely separate theory.

I agree with you, with one minor point (which I'm sure was just an oversight): "The origin of life is kept separate because it is a completely separate theory." I believe this should be: "The origin of life is kept separate because it is a completely separate subject." As you said in your second paragraph "We have hypotheses, such as abiogenesis, but no scientific theory" Other than that, a good response to creationist claims.

Good point. I like your wording better.
