Here is the full article... www.cnn.com/2015/12/18/us/virginia-school-shut-islam-homework/index.htmlBeing that I have done a lot of study in this area I can say this is really walking the line. I am sure the intention was innocent enough, but that is probably the worse possible quote to use for the intended purpose. I do not believe there is anything illegal or unconstitutional about it, but obviously rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. I think it does illustrate the bigger issue of Islamophobia in this country.

I think it does illustrate the bigger issue of Islamophobia in this country. The translated text was enough to make it un-Constitutional. Could have used ANY other phrase to express how difficult calligraphy is. Teach about religions, yes. That expression, to enquiring young minds, went too far. Faith is for parents to teach, school is for educating - reading, writing, arithmetic. Subliminal messages are subtle and do persuade. Parents had a valid right to be angered. Not so sure about the closing of schools. A bit over the top. Pull the ridiculous "lesson" and provide other form if wanting to explain how "difficult" calligraphy is.

It possibly could be un-Constitutional. We would need to know more details, about the class, the teacher, ect. Religious Studies classes can be taught and the Bible can be used as literature. The key is the school (or teacher) cannot PROMOTE one religion over another. I certainly agree that was the absolute worst Arabic phrase one could choose, but it could have been a stupid mistake. I think it is unfair to assume there was subliminal messaging involved unless we have other reasons to believe this. Either way, use a different phrase.
The closing of schools was over the top.
